There is a change of keepers here at Firhill with the news that reserve Goalie Neil Bennett has left . However the manager has been quick to fill the breach with the arrival of former Ross County stopper Colin Stewart. Stewart was released by Ross County earlier in the year and despite having offers to move down South has opted to stay in Scotland and fight for a place here at Firhill. The goalie comments on how he thinks that Firhill is a more professional outfit than his previous employers:
"I am delighted to be back in football again, it was a long summer for me. I have a very sour taste in my mouth the way things ended at Ross County. They have their way of doing things, probably not the right way, but it is good to be back involved with a more professional club. I realise that I am going to have to fight for the number one jersey as I know Kenny is doing very well and I have come up against him many times in the past, and have also worked with him at International level as well. The team as a whole are here to win a place in the First Division again so everyone seems focussed and all we can do now is go out and get some wins under our belt and go on to challenge for the league."
STRIKER ARRIVES
The manager has finally managed to land a striker with the arrival from Airdire United of Mark Roberts. The former Kilmarnock and St Mirren striker has been a regular first team player over recent seasons and although maybe not a prolific scorer, he certainly is a creative player, an assesment that the striker would agree with:
"There are not many strikers here at the moment, but if we all stick together we can get the club through this bad spell and back up the leagues, something that is necessary for this club. Perhaps my main strength over the years has been link up play rather than out and out goal scorer but I will score goals if given the chances. I am looking forward to playing, if selected, against Dumbarton and getting the team up the table as quickly as possible. There are some good teams in the league and it will be a tough season but there is enough class about this team to ensure that we end up back in the First Division next season."
